What happened to Dean

When Dean died it shocked us all. It was just so unexpected and I struggled to come to terms with how he actually died and to understand what happened.

The one thing I knew about my brother was that he did not “DO” suicide. It was not in his nature, not something he would ever choose to do, no matter how dire his situation may have seemed. 

But in actual fact, he did take himself over the edge. Something happened that day. Something bigger than him took over in that moment, in the pinnacle of him seeking help from strangers on that day, and it was all over. Final.

Dean’s death was complex and thus I found it too difficult to take on the role of explaining it to people, many of whom had already come to their own conclusions and judgments about what occurred and why.

I’ve spent years healing the grief and learning to live my life without Dean in it. One of the tools that helped me was writing. Journals, poems, stories, songs. Writing, writing, writing. 

So now I've created a space on my website to honour my brother. To honour his life, and to honour his death and his continuation in spirit.
