What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence is about using your emotions to guide you through the world. It is about being able to use your knowledge of emotions to make decisions, to calm yourself down, to manage anger and conflict, to help you in your relationships with people, to understand what is happening in social situations, and to assist you in any aspects of life that involves you and another person.
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to:
- identify and understand your own emotions
- successfully use emotions during social interactions
- use your emotional awareness to guide you when solving problems
- deal with frustration and be able to wait to get what you want
- keep distress from overwhelming your ability to think
- be in control of how and when you express your feelings.
Parents will develop skills in:
- Understanding children’s emotional experience;
- Identifying and labelling emotions for children;
- Learning about anxiety and problem solving;
- Emotion coaching children’s behaviour and emotions;
- Practising emotionally intelligent parenting;
- Practising self-care when emotion coaching; and
- Learn relaxation strategies to use when managing intense emotions.

What Parents Are Saying
The entire family is now more conscious of their own and other's feelings and emotions.
Our whole family is much more happier and settled as there aren't as many tantrums and outbursts.
I learnt to see things from the child's view.
It was easy to understand but felt very strange doing it at first.
With my changes (controlling my anger, sharing his feelings, listening with empathy) my son has changed a lot. He's very calm, very understanding and very helpful. I feel the relationship with my son has become stronger and he trusts me more.
This course made me realise I need to take time out for me - on a regular basis.
Thank you for the chance to do the program. It is the best thing I have done to improve my relationship with my kids.
